Horton Motor Lines History


  • Company was established in 1930 and began operations in 1931 with 14 units.

August 1935- Company headquarters is moving from Woodruff, SC to Greenville,SC. Company has 5 terminals: New York NY, Burlington NC, Charlotte, NC Greenville, SC and Atlanta, GA. Offers overnight service between Charlotte and Atlanta. There are 23 tractor-trailer units in the fleet.

1937- In September announced a larger Atlanta terminal at 320 North Highland Av NE

May 1938- Acquired Poole Transportation Company and also ordered 50 new 30-foot trailers, bringing the total of lightweight stainless steel trailers to 66

July 1939- 550 units now in fleet
